Letter to UNESCO United Nation

Jakarta, December 14, 2011
To:
Mr. Hubert GIJZEN
Director and Representative
of UNESCO, Jakarta
Galuh II no 5, Kebayoran Baru
DKI Jakarta 12110, Indonesia
Dear, Mr. Hubert GIJZEN

As you know that Malaysia steal our culture and told to the world that it is Malaysia’s culture, not us’ culture. In this letter, I would like to propose you some of the solutions to prevent stealing of culture from one country and another country.

Malaysia has steal our culture such as Reogponorogo Dance from Ponorogo, East Java. Similar dances danced Reog Ponorogo in Malaysia called Tari Barongan buthas elements of Moslem. This dance is also using a mask sudden peacock, which is headed tiger mask on which there are peacock feathers. Descriptions and photos of this dance featured in the official website of the Ministry of Culture Arts and Heritage Malaysia.

Beside the Reogponorogo Dance, there's also another traditional dance from Bali called Tari Pendet. in Bali, this dance usually dance for welcome dance. but again, Malaysia has claimed Tari Pendet to be one of Malaysia's heritage.

My statement is that how to prevent Malaysia from Indonesia, so that they won’t steal our country’s culture again.

So, my concern led me to a search of how it actually happened. After searching in some popular online news that I think is credible, it turns out that it is just a big mis-understanding. The thing is that the suspect that is stating that Tari Pendet belongs to Malaysia was never presented. All there was just a minute of tourism commercial from some institute that shows a clip of Tari Pendet in a part of that commercial.

I think you really need to handle this quick. Because if not, Malaysia will never stop stealing our culture and claimed it as theirs heritage.

Sincerely,
Intan Permata Ayu
